Sesame Street Presents: The Adventures of Kami and Big Bird is an educational outreach program produced for Nigeria by Sesame Workshop. Sesame Workshop partnered with USAID to provide resources about HIV and AIDS to Nigerian children and caregivers. The initiative included five video modules - each containing a mixture of local live action segments introducing Nigerian children from different cities in their environments telling stories about their lives and segments featuring Kami (from Takalani Sesame) and Big Bird (from Sesame Street).
The initiative launched in February 2009; and led to the production of a full Nigerian co-production announced in December 2009, Sesame Square.
Sesame Workshop received a $500,000 grant from The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Presidents Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to develop the original videos and workbooks.
