The Alphabet: The Great Alphabet Play, is a Sesame Street book and tape set published in 1986. The book features Prairie Dawn and friends putting on a show illustrating every letter in the alphabet. The book includes a set of stickers to be used throughout.
Audio tape[]
A two-sided audio recording was packaged with the book. The recording was awarded "Best Recording for Children" in the 29th Annual Grammy Awards.
Side A presents a straightforward expansion of the book, with Prairie Dawn reciting poems about the letters and items on each page, with assistance from the other Muppet characters. The side concludes with Big Bird singing "ABC-DEF-GHI" (the same recording found on Favorite Songs from Jim Henson's Muppets).
Side B is an interactive version of the book, where Prairie Dawn and friends prompt the listener to add the included stickers throughout the pages, as well as using crayons to draw and circle things in the book.
