"The Arm" is a Sesame Street performed a number of times on the show. The song is meant to teach everyone how to do a new dance. You shake your arm to do "The Arm", your leg to do "The Leg", and your thumb to do "The Thumb".
The song was performed as early as Episode 0241 by Pete (played by Cleavon Little). The song would later be performed a few times by David, including in Episode 0436, Episode 0505, and Episode 1581.
In Episode 2908, Savion has some kids do "The Arm" with him. Gordon later sang the song at The White House Easter Egg Roll in 2012. An instrumental, rock 'n' roll version of the song was heard on the radio in a 1990s sketch where Elmo and Telly have a sleepover.
