PERFORMER | David Korr voice |
DEBUT | 1977 |
The Band Leader is, as his title implies, the conductor of the band in the 1977 Sesame Street album Big Bird Leads the Band. An amiable gentleman, the Band Leader has invited Big Bird to play the bells in his group. He speaks in a whistling, sibilant tone.
When Big Bird (who calls him "Mr. Band Leader" throughout) asks to borrow the baton to lead the band, and to tell the listeners about aspects of music and the orchestra, he readily agrees. He soon finds it rather difficult to get Big Bird to surrender the baton again, however.
On the back album sleeve, the role is credited to "L. Korsky-Davidoff" (actually album writer David Korr), a reference to composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
