Benedictine monkees
DEBUT 1997

The Benedictine Monkees are a band of monks from "Lollapalosers," a showcase for acts who weren't good enough for "Lollapalooza." They appeared on episode 210 of Muppets Tonight.

The puppets were built to resemble the band members of The Monkees, Peter Tork, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz. The name is also a reference to the Benedictine monks who follow the "Rule of Saint Benedict." The order gained notoriety when recordings of their Gregorian chants became a popular and commercial success in the 1990s.

The groups' song is a parody of The Monkees' hit, "(Theme from) The Monkees."
