The Bonfire of the Vanities is a 1987 novel by Tom Wolfe, the author's first after writing non-fiction books including The Right Stuff. Much of the sprawling plot centers on the various parties involved in the trial of a Wall Street trader after a hit and run. It was adapted into a 1990 film.
