The Dictabird is a prehistoric audio recorder in The Flintstones. An elderly, fussy creature, the Dictabird is personal appliance to executive Fred Flintstone, and plays a key role in foiling the villains. At one point, placed in a danger zone, the bird gripes, "I should have worked for Disney. They'd never let anything like this happen."

The Flintstones: The Official Movie Book offers insight into the construction and performance of the Dictabird. The puppet could be fitted with interchangeable heads, necks, and bodies depending on the requirement of the scene. The book reports that, "at its most complex [the puppet] required up to five people to operate." The film's lead puppeteer Anthony Asbury manipulated the bird's head with the Henson Digital Performance System.[1] Other puppeteers for the Dictabird included Lisa Sturz[2] and Drew Massey.[3]
