The Earthshot Prize is a global environmental award given to five winners every year for their contributions towards solving climate change. Created by Prince William and David Attenborough in 2020, it was first awarded in 2021 and is planned to run annually until 2030.
Appearances[]
- Oscar the Grouch was a speaker at the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on September 21, 2022 (held prior to the actual awards ceremony). Oscar comes out during former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg's speech to protest the Earthshot Prize's initiative, complaining about the idea of a "waste-free world" and telling Bloomberg he wants to build a "waste-full world." However, Oscar admits to owning a recycling bin next to his trash can and agrees to promote a waste-free world if Bloomberg visits Sesame Street. Oscar comments on Bloomberg's negotiating skills and tells him he should go into politics. Bloomberg replies that he might get back into politics if he could run for mayor of Sesame Street (and if Oscar endorses him). (YouTube)
