"The First Time It Happens" was written for The Great Muppet Caper. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy sing it at The Dubonnet Club as they dance together, starting as a slow production number and eventually becoming more upbeat. Footage from this sequence appeared in The Muppets Go to the Movies.
Kermit and Miss Piggy also performed the song at the Academy Awards show in 1982, when it was nominated for Best Song. It lost to "Arthur's Theme (The Best That You Can Do)" from Arthur.
The song was later used over a montage of Miss Piggy clips in The Muppets: A Celebration of 30 Years, and the orchestra played an instrumental version of the song as Miss Piggy made her entrance.
Non-Muppet performances[]
- Seth MacFarlane covered the song on his 2017 album In Full Swing.
