The Forsyte Saga is a 1967 British TV serial, based on the novels of John Gallsworthy, examining the lives of a family of "new money" and how their fortunes fare over the decades. The acclaimed series was purchased for American broadcast by NET in 1969 (months before transitioning to PBS) and the ratings success inspired Masterpiece Theatre as a showcase for imported, classically themed British drama.
A new adaptation, in fewer episodes, was made in 2002 and 2003, this time with funding directly from WGBH and intent to air on Masterpiece.
