The Hare (or " The Rabbit" as he's sometimes known to sports fans; or "Jumpin' Jack Rabbit" others call him) is the main characters from the classic fable The Tortoise and the Hare.
The Hare appeared with Kermit and The Tortoise in a Sesame Street News Flash sketch in Sesame Street Season 3. When the race began, the hare dawdled, believing that since the tortoise is so slow that he would have time to win. But he soon lost when Kermit rushed to the finish line to be able to catch the results and is inadvertently crowned the winner.
The Hare was remade in Season 20 for another Sesame Street News Flash sketch titled "The Tortoise and the Hare Rematch". This time The Hare challenged The Tortoise to a rematch, and the Tortoise comes equipped with a jet-pack.
