"The Inch Worm" is a song originating in the Danny Kaye film Hans Christian Andersen.

Kaye's recording for the album Danny Kaye Sings Selections From Hans Christian Andersen was used on Sam and Friends a number of times over the course of the series, with Kermit lip-syncing to the vocals in front of a schoolhouse with silhouetted children in the window.[1]

The song was then performed on Sesame Street in Season 2 by a Muppet inchworm and a Muppet bug, respectively played by Jerry Nelson and Fran Brill (First: Episode 0168), and on the album Big Bird presents Hans Christian Andersen.

The first time it was sung on The Muppet Show was in episode 109, when Charles Aznavour sang it outside a schoolhouse, a near recreation of the Sam and Friends version.[1] The silhouette of Zelda Rose and some children can be seen through the window of the schoolhouse.

It was sung again by Danny Kaye and the cast, with an inchworm backstage in episode 316.
