Rowlf the Dog appears during the opening number, singing a verse of "Sleigh Ride."
Later, Rowlf is seen decorating his Christmas tree, wishing on the top star for Lassie. He tells Jimmy Dean about his trip to the department store to buy the tree, where he encountered children thinking he was a toy and a woman thinking he was a fur product.
Rowlf gives Jimmy a Christmas present - a collar and leash (the leash is for Jimmy, the collar's for himself). Jimmy reciprocates with a letter saying that Lassie will be visiting the show next week. The two then sing a duet of "White Christmas" as snowflakes fall on them.
