The episode is announced as "The Jimmy Dean New Year's Eve Party," from Hollywood, California.
For Rowlf's spot, the dog is wearing a nightcap at the fence and tells the audience goodnight, since he's going to bed. It turns out he's down because he hasn't been invited to any New Year's Eve parties. Jimmy Dean says he can't believe his ears (Rowlf can't believe them either, but they're larger than life). He suggests Rowlf throw his own party.
It sounds like a good idea to Rowlf, who dons a party hat instead. He calls up the Cucamonga Caterers to order 70 roast turkeys, 40 baked hams, 50 pounds of caviar, and a sour pickle. This irks Jimmy, who launches into a routine borrowed from Abbott and Costello (usually done with either Abbott or foil Sid Fields objecting to everything Costello plans).
First, Jimmy says he's ordering massive amounts of food when people are starving in Afghanistan. Rowlf calls to cancel the order, and now Jimmy guilts him for canceling with the caterer, who will be starving himself. Rowlf decides to invite the caterer as his only guest and hire an accordion player. Jimmy objects to that because of all the musicians out of work. Rowlf offers to hire the entire Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra. Jimmy says that's too much to entertain one caterer, so Rowlf calls "Mr. Cucamonga" to tell him to bring his wife.
Now Jimmy's objection is that he's throwing a party for two people he hasn't even met. Rowlf cancels the party again, but Jimmy tells him to invite people he knows. Rowlf says it will be 2,000 of his closest friends and he'll use the Hollywood Bowl. Jimmy now complains about the traffic problems he'll cause, and says buildings will burn down because the fire engines can't get through. Rowlf's solution is to have everyone walk, and Jimmy says that will ruin everyone's shoes. Rowlf says he'll hire shoemakers instead of waiters. Now Jimmy asks if he has to wear a tux. Rowlf says he can come in his regular clothes. When Jimmy finds fault with that ("On New Year's Eve?"), the weary canine says he can forgot the clothes. Jimmy takes him literally and says he'll be naked, arrested, lose his show, his children will starve, "all because you had to have a New Year's Eve party."
Rowlf gives up and heads back to bed. Jimmy then tells his ol' buddy it was all a put on, because he's throwing his own party and inviting Rowlf. The happy hound can finally put his party hat back on. The pair sing a short version of "Enjoy Yourself (It's Later than You Think)" with seasonal lyrics: "It's 1966!"
