"The Magic Cookie" is a story narrated by Herbert Birdsfoot, in which Cookie Monster sets off on a journey for "everlasting joy and happiness," encountering many obstacles along the way. His journey is illustrated on a picture map inside the gatefold sleeve of Havin' Fun with Ernie & Bert, so the "kids at home" can follow along and tell Cookie what to do. When the track was featured on any other album, Birdsfoot's references to the picture map were removed, however they were left on all issues of Havin' Fun - even those without the map artwork. The picture map (and its corresponding dialogue) was also featured on the 1972 single release of the track, as well as inside the gatefold sleeve of Just the Two of Us.
