The Masked Singer is a reality TV singing competition that has aired on FOX since 2019. The show features celebrities singing songs while dressed in elaborate head-to-toe costumes to conceal their identities. Based on a South Korean show, King of Mask Singer, dozens of international versions have been produced.

Appearances[]

  • Kermit the Frog appeared as a contestant in the March 2021 season 5 premiere of the American series, disguised as the Snail and singing Hall & Oates' "You Make My Dreams." Kermit was eliminated from the competition and his identity was revealed at the end of the program.
  • Had Kermit not been eliminated when he was, he had prepared to sing "I'm a Believer" in a later appearance.[2]
  • Kermit returned in season 5, episode 8, joining the other eliminated celebrities from that season to sing Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up."

Mentions[]

American series

  • In the second episode of the fourth season (September 30, 2020), the Seahorse's clue package contains a rainbow frog. It is later revealed that Tori Kelly was the Seahorse, and the frog was a reference to her singing "Rainbow Connection" with Kermit the Frog at Disneyland 60.
  • In the sixth episode of the fourth season (November 4, 2020), the Jellyfish's clue package contains a ship called the "USS Big Bird." It is later revealed that Chloe Kim was the Jellyfish, and the ship was a reference to her appearance on Sesame Street with Big Bird.
  • In the fifth episode of the seventh season (April 6, 2022), Jenny McCarthy incorrectly guessed that the Hydra was Bert and Ernie. The Hydra was later revealed to be Penn and Teller.
  • In season 7, episode 4, Raymond Joseph Teller's singing voice (coming from Hydra) is compared to former contestant Kermit the Frog.
  • In the fifth episode of the eleventh season, "Shower Anthems," a snippet of "Rubber Duckie" played as the panelists received an extra clue from the Clock.
  • A commercial for the twelfth season featured the Pinball Number Count song.

British series

  • In the sixth episode (February 1, 2020), the "Spy Cam" goes into the Monster's "dressing room" to find a call from "Kermit T. Frog." It is later revealed that Cee Lo Green was the Monster, and the call was a reference to his performing of "All I Need is Love" with the Muppets.
