"The Monster's Three Wishes" is a Sesame Street skit based on the Aladdin story from One Thousand and One Nights. (First: Episode 0634) The story was told by Bob, and featured Cookie Monster and a genie.
Synopsis[]
Cookie Monster is brushing his teeth one day when he lets a genie out of his toothpaste tube. The Genie rewards him with three wishes. He wants a million cookies, but first wants something to carry them in. He wishes for a truck, and gets a die-cast sized truck that can barely hold one cookie. After seeking advice from Bob, he requests a bigger truck; The Genie gives him a slightly bigger truck which can hold several cookies, but certainly not a million.
After consulting with Bob once again, he then asks for the biggest truck, which he gets: a full-size 1973 Ford F-250 pickup truck. He is satisfied... until he asks for his 1 million cookies. The Genie informs him that he has no more wishes left. Undaunted, he decides to eat the truck!
Versions[]
"The Monster's Three Wishes" was originally a story in the 1973 book The Sesame Street 1, 2, 3 Storybook. In this version, Cookie Monster wishes for a dish, box, and truck to hold his cookies. It was later reprinted in The Sesame Street Library. As before, when the genie reminds him that his wish for cookies can't be granted in addition to counting off the three things he wished for, he decides to go ahead and eat the truck.
An audio adaptation of the written story was recorded for the 1974 albums C Is for Cookie and Let a Frown Be Your Umbrella. This version featured Herbert Birdsfoot as the narrator and Oscar the Grouch portraying the genie.
