The Muppets Take Manhattan was adapted by Marvel Comics in 1984, as the 68 page story in Marvel Super Special #32, August. The script was adapted by Stan Kay with art by Dean Yeagle and Jacqueline Roettcher.

The adaptation was reprinted as a three-issue miniseries cover-dated November 1984; these were the first comics released under Marvel's new Star Comics imprint for young children. Six months later, Marvel debuted the ongoing Star Comics titles, which included both a Muppet Babies comic and a Fraggle Rock comic, along with series featuring other licensed characters, including Ewoks, Heathcliff, Strawberry Shortcake, and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham.

Unlike in the film, the comic depicts Gonzo, Floyd Pepper, Animal, Janice, Dr. Teeth and Zoot in their customary outfits from The Muppet Show.

Although the seating at the wedding differs significantly from the movie's depiction, a handful of Sesame Street characters, including Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Grover, Ernie, Bert, and Herry Monster, still appear at the wedding.

Collections[]

In 2017, Marvel Comics published all four comics as a bonus to their 680 page Muppet Babies comics omnibus. Beside the film's adaptation, the anthology collects all 26 issues of the classic comic book series for Muppet Babies. The book comes with two hardcovers: one with all the Babies for mass distribution, and another of Baby Kermit, exclusively for comic book stores. Both were available beginning October 4, 2017 in comic books stores, and everywhere else on October 17, 2017.
