"The Musicians" (often referred to as "I Am a Fine Musician") is a Sesame Street song performed by four Anything Muppets. They sing about the different instruments that they play for people. The Green Muppet sings about his trumpet, the Fat Blue Muppet sings about his tuba, the Pumpkin Muppet sings about his trombone, and finally the Reddish-Magenta Muppet sings about her piccolo.
Based on the German folk song "Ich bin ein Musikante" (literally "I Am a Musician"), it was translated into English and musically adapted by folk singer Tom Glazer (with Charles Grean, who later wrote "The Thing"). This version, recorded in 1951 and performed by big name singers Dinah Shore, Betty Hutton, Phil Harris, and Tony Martin, was used several times on Sam and Friends.[1] The song was also performed twice on The Dick Van Dyke Show when the main cast put on revues.
