Revision as of 21:06, 17 July 2010
The Number of the Day premiered as a daily segment on Sesame Street in Season 33, which aired in 2002. The sequence originally featured the Count playing an organ to get to the number of the day.
The numbers 0-20 have been represented as numbers of the day.
Starting in season 36, all Number of the Day segments for the numbers 1-10 were remakes of the Number Song Series opening sequence done in CGI ribbon effects, followed by a human child playing with a jack-in-the-box to get to the number of the day. Newer segments for higher numbers featured a "Number of the Day" song with Count von Count and the Countess, or the Count interacting with real kids on the street. This lasted until Season 38, when the pipe organ skits were re-run. Apparently, in season 39, the pipe-organ re-runs were gone and replaced with new street scenes about the episode shown. In season 40, Murray Monster began hosting the Number of the Day, in addition to introducing various other show elements.
Most of the segments with the Count can be viewed on the Sesame Street Video Player. Of the 1-10 segments from season 36, only 3 and 4 segments (listed there as "Ribbons and Jack-in-the-Box #3" and "Ribbons and Jack-in-the-Box #4") are included.
