The Princess Who Wouldn't Laugh is the "L" volume of the Sesame Street ABCs, a set of alphabet books published by Reader's Digest in 1996. It is a Sesame Street storybook adaptation of the Russian fairy tale, The Princess Who Never Laughed.
Princess Lily cannot laugh, and her father King Louie has all manner of people and performers (involving L words) perform absurd and funny acts for her. None of them succeed, until Ernie and Bert (two lads lugging a ladder) accidentally collide with the assembled applicants. The resulting chain reaction of slapstick finally makes the princess laugh.
