The Royal Jester appeared in the "King Midas" story from Muppet Classic Theater.
After the titular king inadvertently turns himself into a golden statue, Queen Midas recruits him to try to help bring him back to normal (after fellow advisors The Royal Doctor and The Royal Jeweler fail to work out). Being the jester, however, he instead unhelpfully cracks the following "riddle":
Unamused, Queen Midas smacks the cackling joker with her statue husband, sending him flying.
The same puppet, made from an orange Whatnot, also appeared among the townspeople in nearly every other story in the video (except for "The Three Little Pigs"). Among these other appearances is as a villager (performed by Allan Trautman) in "The Boy Who Cried Wolf," who keeps reminding the mayor, "We pay our taxes!"
