Shawshank referenced in Muppets Most Wanted

The Shawshank Redemption is a 1982 prison novel written by Stephen King that was adapted into a 1994 movie directed by Frank Darabont. The plot follows Andy Dufresne, an accountant who is accused of killing his wife and her lover and is sent to Shawshank Prison, making friends and becoming an important part of the warden's illegal schemes.

  • Muppets from Space parodies Andy's escape scene. In the film, Andy uses posters of Rita Hayworth and Raquel Welch to cover a hole in the wall he digs over the course of 20 years. In Muppets from Space, Rizzo reveals he's dug a tunnel through the cage and the wall, hidden by a "Mice Girls" poster.
  • Kermit's attempts at escaping in Muppets Most Wanted parody those of Andy Dufresne's. He hides an escape tunnel behind a poster of Miss Piggy and attempts to escape via the prison sewer system.
