Production document depicting an "Ancient Fraggle Cave Painting" from the Blu-ray liner notes.
The Solemn Mark of the Fraggle is a cultural symbol of Fraggledom consisting of a Fraggle stick figure playfully placing its thumbs against its temples with fingers spread (the gesture is usually associated with children's taunts and jeers). A two-dimensional depiction is seen drawn on surfaces, while a version carved into or from stone adds feet and a baloobius.
The symbol is first seen, and named, in the Fraggle Rock episode "The Lost Treasure of the Fraggles." The ancient map, found by Gobo and Red, says that the Solemn Mark will be found at the center of a certain chasm. When they go there, they find a carved stone version right where the map says it would be, which is how they know that the map is genuine. The Treasure of Fraggle Rock turns out to be a music box, decorated with the same symbol.
In "The Finger of Light," the Solemn Mark appears on a sign held up by one of the Fraggles petitioning Mokey with a suggestion for how to use her remaining command as Ruler of the Rock.
Appropriately, the Solemn Mark is on display in the Hall of Justice as seen in the first season episode, "I Don't Care."
Uncle Traveling Matt erects a flag with the symbol in the name of "Fragglekind" when he scales the CN Tower in Toronto during the episode "The Doozer Contest."
The Venerable Council of Sages have two instances of the rock-carved symbol in their cave as seen in "Red-Handed and the Invisible Thief." At the beginning of the scene, a portion of one is hanging from the ceiling. Another copy is on display against a cave wall. In the same episode, Boober makes a drawing of it using his magic soap bar.
Mokey drew a similar image on a cave wall when she traveled back in time and met the ancient Fraggles in "Mokey, Then and Now."
A version of the symbol with spikes coming out of its head was seen on a rock at the Lighthouse in some episodes of the UK co-production.
