The Story of Babar the Little Elephant is a 1931 children's book first published in France as Histoire de Babar le petit éléphant. Written by Jean de Brunhoff, it features a little elephant named Babar created by his wife as a story for their children. Babar visits the big city and brings the comforts of civilization back to the jungle.
A. A. Milne introduced an English language version of the story in 1933, and many sequels followed. It has also been adapted as several animated series beginning in the 1960s.
