The Sugarland Express is a 1974 theatrical film, the first helmed by Steven Spielberg (who also co-wrote the story, but had only directed for television prior). A petty criminal couple (with the husband having broken out of prison) seek to reclaim their baby son from foster care. They kidnap a state trooper in the process, while a growing police caravan follows in pursuit.
