"The Thing" is a 1950 novelty song originally recorded by Phil Harris, all about a hapless individual who finds a mysterious "thing" in a box and is unable to alleviate themself of it. It quickly became a hit, bolstered by references or performances on the radio shows of Harris, Jack Benny, and others. The song would go on to be recorded by such artists as Danny Kaye, Ray Charles, and Adam West.
The song was used a number of times on Sam and Friends, including the original Harris recording and a version by Alice Pearce (from the album Monster Rally). The later version, used several times on the show, was lip-synced to on at least one occasion by Kermeena.
