Wiggles sesame street crossover

The Wiggles are an Australian children's band who gained international popularity during the 2000s. Over the years, their members have rotated since their founding in 1991.

The original Wiggles (Greg Page, Anthony Field, Murray Cook, and Jeff Fatt) appeared with the costumed Sesame Street Live characters during the 1996 edition of Carols in the Domain, the annual Australian Christmas concert.

In 2019, the then-current lineup of the group (Field, Emma Watkins, Simon Pryce, and Lachlan Gillespie) performed "Do the Propeller" with Elmo, Abby Cadabby, and Cookie Monster. Two localized versions of the video were produced and released on The Wiggles and Sesame Street YouTube channels on November 20.

Sesame Street and The Wiggles collaborated again on two more sing-along videos in 2021; in celebration of the show's 50th anniversary of broadcasting in Australia, and the group's 30th anniversary.[1] The first video (released on May 10) is a new performance of "The ABCs of Moving You," featuring brief appearances by The Wiggles' supporting characters, Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog, and Henry the Octopus. The second (released on June 8) is a remake of The Wiggles' "Fruit Salad." Like the previous collaboration, two localized versions for each music video were produced for both partners' YouTube channels.

The group added four new members in 2021, to add diversity, ahead of the launch of a new YouTube series called Fruit Salad TV. Kelly Hamilton, who previously performed with Sesame Street Live, briefly served as a member of the expanded lineup.[2][3]

References[]

  • On their November 17, 2003 "Dynamic Duo" appearance on Hollywood Squares, host Tom Bergeron asks Miss Piggy and Kermit a question about the Wiggles: "Anthony likes to eat, Greg is a magician, Murray makes faces, and Jeff falls asleep a lot. Who are they?" Piggy quips, "They sound like four big-time losers if you ask me," while Kermit says "I think that's Martin Mull's other four blowup dolls," referring to Peggy, a doll brought by Mull to the show. Kermit ultimately gives the correct response of "The Wiggles."
