Theodore Rex is a 1996 film set in a futuristic world in which dinosaurs have been revived, achieved sentience, and wear clothes but no pants. A jaded human police detective must team up with the title dinosaur to solve a pair of murders. The movie, which cost over 33 million dollars, ultimately bypassed theaters and went straight to video. Star Whoopi Goldberg attempted to back out of her contract before the film was even completed, and the movie itself became a minor pop culture joke as an example of bad high concept nineties movies.
The movie made extensive use of animatronic dinosaurs. While Jim Henson's Creature Shop had no involvement, several cast and crew members of Dinosaurs participated, with John Criswell co-designing the dinosaurs and his own company, Criswell Productions, fabricating them.
