"This Is My Street" is a Sesame Street country song performed by Thomas Rhett and the Muppet cast, serving as the anthem for the show's 50th anniversary.
Rhett sings about going to Sesame Street and hanging out with its many denizens. Among the Muppets featured are Elmo, Rosita, Bert, Ernie, Big Bird, The Martians, Super Grover, Abby Cadabby, Rudy, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, The Count, Gonger and Zoe.
Some clips from previous episodes are shown. These include:
- Episode 4702 (Nina reading to Elmo and Grover on the stoop of 123 Sesame Street)
- Episode 4818 (The cast dancing in a conga line in the yard)
- Episode 4812 (Big Bird strolling past the Sesame Street sign)
- Episode 4805 (The Martians' spaceship landing, and children playing ball)
- Episode 4715 (Elmo, Abby and Julia playing tag)
- Episode 4801 (The final scene with the entire cast gathered at the table)
- Episode 4815 (Big Bird decorating his nest)
The song was taped on December 5, 2018[1] and premiered on YouTube on February 4, 2019, well in advance of the show's 50th season.
The song was used during the end credits of Sesame Street's 50th Anniversary Celebration, which featured allusions and characters from various animated segments, such as Donnie Budd, The King of Eight, Pinball Number Count, Ladybugs' Picnic and others. The credits sequence would be converted into an animated lyric video published to the Sesame Street YouTube channel in September 2020. (YouTube)
Rhett and the Sesame Muppets performed the song live at the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors, during a tribute honoring the show.
Notes[]
- The original YouTube upload uses a different audio mix of the song than in later releases. One notable difference is Ernie greeting Rhett with "Oh, hey, Thomas!" in the original, which was redubbed as "Hiya, Thomas Rhett!"
