Thomas Sully (1783-1872) was a British born painter who lived most of his life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His most famous portrait, of US President Andrew Jackson, has appeared on the US twenty dollar bill since 1928. Another notable work depicts George Washington in Passage of the Delaware, but is less known than Emanuel Leutze's depiction of the event.
