Hi everybody! Muppet Wiki is one of the first to try out the beta demo of our new Forum feature. My team's been working on this feature for a couple months, and we're going to keep working on it through the summer.
We've got some fun features so far, and we're going to be building more in the upcoming versions. We're going to learn a lot from having this live demo -- both direct feedback and just observing how it works -- and that's going to help us figure out what to build, what to fix and what to drop. So please mess around with it, talk to people, and then let us know what you think about the Forum. :)
Also -- I realized when I was setting up the boards that I hadn't given a single thought to what boards we'd actually want on Muppet Wiki. We can figure it out and I'll make more Boards when we have ideas. :)
Yes! And one of the features coming up will be a way to move a conversation from one Board to another, from the Wall to a Board, and so on. So we won't have to remove stuff and tell the user to look somewhere else -- we'll just move the thread, and their notifications will still work. That'll be happening a little later this summer.
Yeah, Scott, I was thinking about the stuff that doesn't have anything to do with the actual articles, or is just personal opinion or general conversation on the topic, but not encyclopedic. The people who just want to talk Muppets or reminisce about their favorite Sesame Street insert but don't want to sign up for Toughpigs or Muppet Central.
That makes sense. Might also help with a lot of the "Who voices such and such" queries which are either unanswerable (based on one line or general curiosity) and just stay for awhile, or become guessing games. (If there's actual video, audio, or other source, or if it concerns a major character or recast, it's still useful on the talk pages, but a lot of times, it's "Anybody have an idea?" and a string of random names for a one-shot).
Would it be possible to reply to a certain comment rather than the whole thread? For example, Oscarfan is reply #8 in this thread. If I wanted to reply to him, it would be great if my comment were indented under his. Lots of commenting systems on other sites work this way.
Yeah, we're going to add a quoting feature, and it'll probably also have a link back to the post you're quoting from. I like the way it works on the Tough Pigs Forum. I think the indented replies would make notifications stop making sense.
