I very strongly feel that it’s time to change the performer inbox on the Statler and Waldorf page, since Peter has performed Statler enough times already and that Peter really is Statler’s official performer now.

    • His performer has shifted a lot. We should probably wait until he's been doing the character for more than a year and just a handful of minor appearances.

In fact, looking at the performer box on Statler and Waldorf, it's a mess. We as a community should discuss options to limiting what we include in that space in this particular instance.

Perhaps just Jim & Richard, and Steve & Dave since they had the two longest tenures. Then everything else under the Casting History section.

      I disagree.

    • I see value in cleaning up the performer box, and maybe narrowing it to the performers with the longest tenures might work. On the other hand, I think readers will be curious about who the current performers are, and that's something we should establish upfront in the box. I imagine new editors will keep adding Nelson or Linz to the box not knowing that we have a special rule for that page.

    • Agreed. Which is why I think it's best to use the more... link in the box like what can currently be seen on Ernie.

    • It’s best to keep Jerry Nelson listed as one of Statler’s past official performers anyway since he performed Statler in A LOT of projects during his tenure in the role.

    • He still has the shortest tenure as the character.

    • A lot of the problem comes simply from having one box for two characters who both have been recast often (and when the shortest tenure outside of fill-ins or one year so far players is 11 years for Jerry Nelson). There used to be one box for each character on the same page. That might be worth considering (it would push things down, true but also have a clearer division, so when and/if anyone else is added, it's based on how it looks for each character rather than total number.) There's already a more link on Statler and Waldorf, as on Ernie, but the pages and boxes aren't really the same since it's for a paired character (most other examples of pairs have more consistent performers, or like the Two-Headed Monster, no names in the box because it's just too many per head).

Otherwise, if it's still an issue that formatting or a template tweak just for these guys can't fix, I might actually favor just the original performers (Hunt and Henson, maybe even state "original" if we had to to make it clear why they're included) and everyone else, however long, goes in the article (they're still listed as primary performers in the actual text, just wouldn't go in the box). It's a solution that's been brought up before, though usually saved as a last resort (or if anything beyond one or two performers lasted only a year or one to two minor projects; see Janice).

    • "various" doesn't feel as appropriate for the Statler & Waldorf article as it does for the THM article.

I like the idea of just Jim and Richard, and then more...

    • I'm okay with just listing Jim and Richard in the performer box and elaborating more in the Casting History, since every later performance in some way takes from the Muppet Show iterations of the characters.

    • That sounds like a fine solution to me.

      Stupid, stupid idea. 😡
