  • Hey man, what's up with all the date changes on character debuts? The last three I checked are wrong.

    • I'm going by the confirmed first appearances of the sketches that those characters debuted in.

    • You seem to be looking at the song dates, not the airdates; those first two were correct by Anthony's change.

    • Why are the dates on the song pages different from the dates on the sketch pages?

For example, Frankie Monster appeared in "Love the Ocean" which we say debuted in 1989, but the episode aired in 1990.

    • The template reflects when the song was written/copyrighted, not necessarily when it aired or was first released.

    • I didn't know that. Is that confusing?

How do we know "Herry's Family Song" was written in 1986?

    • It was taped January 7, 1987, so it can't have been written less than a week prior.

    • "Herry's Family Song" could have been written in 1985, but because it was taped in 1987, we're assuming one year before. That doesn't feel very solid.

I wonder if this is a bigger wiki conversation we should have about song dates.

    • That did not occur to me; seems plausible, and worth a discussion.

I think we did talk about song dates before, maybe not what we're talking here, but I feel there was a time when we talked about how a lot of song copyright dates (especially for the first season) tend to be for when the season ends (such as the theme song being copyrighted 1970 instead of 1969), But now that more firsts have been confirmed, it seems like a lot of copyright dates do reflect the start of their respective seasons.

I've also been wondering if we could use at least a sandbox page for segments that were held over until a later season, if we have enough confirmed instances. Seems there's a lot of segments where the first broadcast appearance is a season later than what's been confirmed on DVD and other sources (some widely sourced; for example, I feel it's widely sourced that "Pinball Number Count" was made in season 7 but none of them aired until season 8).

    • That's a good point, too. I've come across at least a handful of those.

    • Where are you finding song copyright dates? As far as I remebe the last time I looked up anything on ASCAP, it didn't come with a date.

    • Most copyright dates we have are sourced from album liner notes, songbooks and lyric sheets, and in some cases, the Copyright Catalog.
