Tom Lehrer (1928-2025) was a musician and satirist, known best for his many comical and satirical songs. He wrote several songs for the political satire series This Was the Week That Was, and later contributed several songs (and the occasional singing vocals) for The Electric Company. By the 1970s, Lehrer had retired from the music scene and went into teaching at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Lehrer's works were among the many recordings cribbed for Sam and Friends, including "The Hunting Song" (used in 1958 and 1959) and "The Elements" (in 1960),[1] a musical list of the Periodic Table of Elements set to "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General."
