A DRD injects Crichton with translator microbes in "Premiere."
On Farscape, translator microbes are a species of microorganisms that allow different alien races to understand each other. While most people have them injected at birth, it is possible to have them injected later in life, such as John Crichton in "Premiere."
The microbes colonize at the base of the brain, allowing alien species (who all speak different languages) to be able to communicate. However, some species, such as Kalish (Sikozu's species), cannot tolerate translator microbes and must learn another's language by hearing it. Additionally, some languages are too complex for translator microbes, namely Pilot's species, who must simplify their sentences.
