The Troll appeared in "The True Bride" from The StoryTeller. A brutish, cruel being with contradictory wants, the troll is guardian to the orphaned Anja, replacing father and mother and thus serving as her "other." The troll's own daughter, Trollop, ran away years earlier. The troll deals with contradictions through his "contradiction stick," a cudgel with which he beats Anja. The troll is dispatched by the White Lion, freeing Anja.
