True Blood is a television series based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries books. It aired on HBO from 2008 until 2014. The show was spoofed on Sesame Street’s Season 41 as True Mud.

The parody features a mysterious man (who is a caricature of Bill Compton, played by Stephen Moyer) strolling into a restaurant (whooshing through the room instead of walking) and ordering some "true mud." The rest of the patrons accuse him of being a Grouch, as they have a strong affinity for mud. However, the waitress (a caricature of Sookie Stackhouse, played by Anna Paquin) brings him a "true spud," some "true cud" through a cow, and a man named Bud (a caricature of Sheriff Bud Dearborne, played by William Sanderson), who tries giving him a broken watch (which is a "true dud"). Annoyed, the man throws himself on the floor, with a "true thud." Just when he's had enough, the waitress finally brings in a bathtub full of mud, which he uses for his mud bath. The other characters ultimately decide to join him. Other caricature characters in the background include Lafayette Reynolds (played by Nelsan Ellis), Sam Merlotte (played by Sam Trammell), Tara Thornton (played by Rutina Wesley) and Andy Bellefleur (played by Chris Bauer).

The Anything Muppet caricatures featured in the Sesame Street parody are performed by Jerry Nelson ("Bill Compton"), Fran Brill ("Sookie"), Eric Jacobson ("Sam"), Leslie Carrara-Rudolph ("Tara"), and David Rudman ("Bud"). Stephanie D'Abruzzo performs the cow.
