"True Colors" is the title track and the first single released from Cyndi Lauper's second album. "True Colors" spent two weeks in the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
In The Muppets episode "Walk the Swine," Becky reveals that Fozzie, who is "very sentimental," gets "very emotional" when he hears the song. This prompts Becky and the rest of the Up Late staff to start singing the song to mock Fozzie. Later, Zoot plays the song on the saxophone, which Fozzie describes as "hauntingly beautiful."
Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem perform a more sincere cover of the song for Nora in the second episode of The Muppets Mayhem.
The song was also performed in the Sesame Street Live show Elmo's Coloring Book.
