True Grit is a 1969 Western film, based on a 1968 novel, starring John Wayne, who won Academy Award for Best Actor. When her father is murdered by a treacherous hired hand, Mattie Ross is determined to see his killer captured and hung and seeks out grizzled, hard drinking marshal Rooster Cogburn (Wayne), who she hears has "true grit."
A 2010 film version by the Coen Brothers returned to the source novel for the adaptation.
