Uncle Traveling Matt appeared in the animated version of Fraggle Rock. As in the original series, he related his exploits in Outer Space through postcards (generally in only one of the two fifteen-minute segments).
Freed from the limitations of actually filming a puppet in different locales, Uncle Matt roamed freely, participating in a roundup at a ranch, wandering in the desert, or walking directly into a highway. These segments often featured live photographic backdrops (by John Burton, Jr.), a technique previously utilized on Muppet Babies.
The puppet version of Uncle Traveling Matt also appeared during the program, as a host in the NBC interstitials.
