Hi Lostris. User:Cörey let me know that you're our new Wiki Representative. Can you share anything about what that role means for us? Thanks, and welcome! —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 15:31, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Hey Scarecroe! Thanks for reaching out, though I will first start with an apology for making you do that. I had been planning on making all my introduction rounds over the weekend, but you thus beat me to the punch. To answer your question though, my role as Wiki Representative is the same of Cörey's role as Wiki Manager before me. As part of a larger move for more clarity (more info on that in this blog), the role has simply been renamed to Wiki Representative, but I will still very much be your point of contact for whenever you want to reach Fandom staff, I will be here to be a (hopefully) well of information for you for whenever you have questions about this wiki specifically or Fandom in generally (and if I don't know, I will find an answer for you), I'll help you out with whatever issue you may have (bugs, editing conflict, social issues, design hiccups, etc), and I will also be here to support this community in its attempts to grow and evolve by sharing ideas on how/where to improve still, and to perhaps host some fun things to do as a community. I hope that clarifies some things, but if not, happy to elaborate further! Don't ever hesitate to reach out to me, either here or via Discord even, whichever you prefer! Thanks for the welcome, and I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you! Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20190922130322 SOAP 16:11, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response, and no worries on the introduction. Wiki Helpers/Managers/Representatives are still a new concept for us, but I'm happy to have more lines of communication open. Especially with so many of the folks I've known over the years from the WikiCities and Wikia days having moved on. Just to be clear, are you a paid employee or a volunteer doing this in your free time? If you need to reach out, you're welcome to email me at any time. —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 16:19, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
I'm a contractor for Fandom, meaning that this is a parttime, paid job for me. Besides that though, I've been an active member of the Fandom platform for more than a decade, with my home wiki being the English Avatar Wiki, where I am an admin and bureaucrat. Apart from that, I'm also a SOAP member (previously named VSTF), meaning that I spend some of my free time stopping and cleaning up after spammers and vandals. The fun part of all those different positions is that I've seen a lot of the aspects of the Fandom platform, so whenever you have questions or if you ever have an idea to do something on the community but you're a bit unsure on how to do it or you feel like you don't have the necessary coding skills, I'm your woman to turn to! :-D Thank you for sharing that email, I will save it in case I ever need to! episode guide previews

Our Sesame Street episode guides have been broken in preview mode since last October when we were moved over to UCP. We talked about it at the time, but we still don't have a fix. I think it's because the preview page isn't looking at the same CSS as the live page is. Can you have someone take a look at it? —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 00:21, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Hiya! You had previously responded to, and fixed, one contributor's bug report in the FandomDesktop conversation awhile back regarding go-search. It looks like it's not working again. Example: typing pigs in space into the search box and pressing enter should take you directly to Pigs in Space. However, the mix of upper- and lower-case first letters in each word is throwing it off. Is this something you have the ability to fix, or should I submit a trouble ticket? —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 12:31, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

I'll file a ticket for it directly, so I can link to the ticket that should've fixed it before. Thanks for bringing it up. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20190922130322 SOAP 12:45, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your support! —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 12:51, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Hi! Any updates on this ticket? —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 13:39, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Hey Scott, sadly no, there has not been an update here, but I did comment on the ticket that you've reported this again. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20190922130322 SOAP 14:30, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for checking on the ticket! —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 14:32, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Of course. I have it followed, so I should receive emails about any progress there and will keep you posted, but of course, don't hesitate to ask for updates. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20190922130322 SOAP 14:54, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi! Can you check in with the IT team on this ticket? I feel like the the last few times this happened, it was a pretty quick fix; like, less than a day. It's been over seven weeks now. —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 12:12, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
I relayed your request for an update, but I can sadly not give you any, as there doesn't seem to have been any activity with this. A lot of resources are still focused on other projects, due to which tickets like this receive less swift attention. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20190922130322 SOAP 12:55, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
The engineers will be prodded just to see if it really is an easy fix that can be done with minimal effort. So TBC. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20190922130322 SOAP 15:32, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
Ho ho ho, semi-early Christmas present! Well, not entirely, as it isn't really the fix you were hoping for, but it is at least an answer for why the go search seems off. An engineer just let me know the following:
I think this is maybe not optimal but expected behaviour. The algorithm looking for the match is a part of MediaWiki core (not ours) and works like this:
  • Find the exact match
  • If not found, make all the first letters of each word uppercase and find exact match
  • If not found, make all the letters uppercase and find exact match
"the" in "Kermit the Frog" is not capitalised and this is why go search does not work for this example. I found that on wikipedia they have a redirect created from "Kermit the frog to "Kermit the Frog" and this is why it works fine there.
I tested this out by looking "the electric company" and I indeed ended up directly on the page, cause in that case, all words are indeed capitalized. So while maybe not the ideal answer to your question, "creating redirects" for those specific cases may be best then. I hope this helps! Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20190922130322 SOAP 15:38, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
Hi, and thanks for checking in on this! The engineer's explanation of expected behaviour sounds correct. However, several years ago, we (Wikia Staff) identified this as non-optimal, so we set out to fix it. Basically it's so that we don't have to manually create a redirect that goes from Kermit The Frog to Kermit the Frog (and thousands of others) just so that go-search will work. This was in place for several years, but since UCP/UCX, it has stopped working. —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 16:06, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

I'm going to relay that back to the engineer and see what they say. TBC! Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20190922130322 SOAP 16:19, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

Hey Scott! Happy holidays, hope you've been having a good time and a nice relaxing time thus far. I just wanted to quickly check in to let you know that the ticket got marked as fixed again. However, with the holiday break, the fix itself won't go live until next year, so we'll see if it got resolved in the way you envisioned it. Happy early New Year! Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20190922130322 SOAP 10:08, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
That's great news! I was worried this was one of those fixes we enjoyed for years only to have it rolled back for whatever reason. I'm genuinely happy to hear that we'll have this available again; it makes searching so much easier for our readers. Looking forward to seeing the patch go live. Happy new year! —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 12:30, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
Looks like that update went live today. It works great! I can now search without having to worry about which words in a phrase should be uppercase and which should be lowercase. Please send along our thanks to the dev team! —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 14:22, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
Ah, that's great, happy to hear that! And will do! The spellcheck should also be reenabled today if you're a Chrome user, so all good things with the latest update :-D Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20190922130322 SOAP 14:29, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
Hm, in Firefox, it looks like I still have to right-click in the edit area and select "Check Spelling". I do miss that, so hopefully they're working on a fix. —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 14:31, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

Ah, not a FF user myself, so don't know the normal behavior there. All I can say is that it should come back online soon for everyone. Very excited that Google finally fixed it. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20190922130322 SOAP 14:35, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
