Val Strazovec (July 01, 1933 - August 17, 2020)[1][2] was a production designer who has worked on several Muppet films, series, and specials. Born in Czechoslovakia, Strazovec migrated to Canada in 1968, and worked on The Julie Andrews Hour. He subsequently served as production designer for The Muppets: A Celebration of Thirty Years and Muppets Tonight, receiving two Emmy Award nominations and one win for the latter.
Strazovec was set designer on The Secret Life of Toys, and production designer for The Christmas Toy, A Muppet Family Christmas, The Jim Henson Hour and Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree.
His feature film credits include serving as production designer for The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island, and design consultant for The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. His individual contributions in these films range from recreating Dickensian London to puppet scale to devising the decks of The Hispaniola and the many shops and buildings of Grouchland USA. Strazovec ran his own consulting and audio-visual development company.
Strazovec died in 2020 at the age of 87.
