Wait for Me! is a 1987 Sesame Street book featuring Elmo. The book was reprinted in 1998 under the title Wait for Elmo!
Summary[]
Elmo is much smaller and slower than his friends Big Bird, Ernie, Bert and Grover, and he can't always keep up with them. One day, they are all roller skating and see an ice cream truck. As the others skate quickly towards it, Elmo calls, "Wait for me!"
Grover comes back and offers to tow Elmo behind him. They set off quickly but soon hit a bump. Elmo falls and starts to cry. They go to Grover's house and Grover bandages Elmo's knee for him. But when Elmo wants to follow Grover back to play with the others, he tells Elmo that he is not big enough.
Grover's Grandpa tells Elmo that he has enough time to wait for Elmo and offers to take him to the zoo. They walk slowly and stop for ice cream and a street band along the way. Back at Grover's house, they are reading a story together when Grover comes home.
Although Grover has had a good day playing with his friends, he is upset that he missed the trip to the zoo. He asks his grandpa to please wait for him next time!
