"We're Going to the Museum and We're Late" is a song written by Tony Geiss, intended to serve as an opening number to the Sesame Street special Don't Eat the Pictures.
In an early draft of the script, the special opened on Sesame Street, with some of the gang waiting by a yellow bus to take them to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but others are late. Everyone begins to sing about the various things they hope to see at the museum and the urgency of their arrival. The song continues as they finally make their way to the museum, up the large staircase, and finally reaching the front doors.
