Weihnachten mit Ernie & Bert ("Christmas with Ernie & Bert") is a Sesamstrasse special that first aired Christmas 2008 (December 24 and 25 on KiKa and December 26 on NDR). It re-aired on December 24, 2009 on ARD.
Similar to Sesamstrasse, the special combines a framing story filmed in Germany, with a variety of insert clips taken from Sesame Street, with each framing clip serving as a topical intro to the following dubbed clip.
The original NDR airing featured different segments than the later ARD airing. Two songs, "Gingerbread Man" and "El Baile del Penguino" replaced "You Made Me Love You" and "O Christmas Tree" respectively. These segments were later changed when the special re-aired on NDR in December 2012.
|Scene||Bert can't find Ernie in the apartment, and they have lots to do before 6 pm, when Santa Claus will arrive. Ernie enters from the outside, telling Bert that he has just cleaned the chimney so that Santa won't get dirty when he passes through.|
|Muppets||Kermit witnesses how Santa Claus comes down the chimney, but not before a chimney sweep enters the chimney first.|
|Scene||Bert tells Ernie to go and bake some cookies while he will clean the living room. After Bert has begun cleaning the living room, Ernie starts to throw things around from the kitchen, in an attempt to find the chocolate cream he needs for the cookies.|
|Muppets|| Cookie Monster sings "You Made Me Love You."|
(EKA: Folge 2062)
|Scene||Ernie finds the chocolate cream, but discovers that it's empty. Bert doesn't believe him since it's still new. As he tries to get the cream out he gets it all over his face. As the door bell rings, Bert yells to Ernie that they don't have time for visitors, so Ernie answers the door and tells the old man at the door that they just don't have the time right now. Meanwhile Bert has hauled the Christmas tree inside the living room, which Ernie thinks is beautiful though something seems to be wrong with it. He notices a small leaf on the side of it and as he tries to take it off, he knocks over the entire tree.|
|Muppets||On Die Grosse Sesamstrassen-Musikshow Rumpel sings his version of "O Christmas Tree". During the song, Bert appears dressed as Santa Claus.|
|Scene||Bert has decorated the tree, and Ernie's cookies are finally done too. Bert notices that there are just 20 minutes left before Santa arrives and hurries off. Meanwhile an old man looks through the window of the apartment. Ernie notices the man at the window, and figures that it must be a snowman.|
|Muppets||Ernie and Bert are building a snowman, but Ernie fears that the snowman will be cold if they don't dress him. Even though Bert tries to tell him that snowmen can't feel the cold, that doesn't stop Ernie from dressing the snowman in Bert's clothing.|
|Scene||The doorbell rings again and Ernie reminds the freezing old man that they don't have time for visitors. As he closes the door he remembers something, so he opens the door again, wishes the old man a merry Christmas, and closes the door again. Bert asks who it was and Ernie tells him that it was the old man again, with the white beard and that red hat. Ernie remarks that Bert looks very handsome in his fine clothes, and goes to change as well. In the meantime Bert begins to realize who Ernie described standing outside the door. Just as Bert is about to open the door, Ernie returns to show Bert his nice clothes. Bert though, does not approve of Ernie's choice of clothing.|
|Muppets|| Cinderella's Fairy Godmother tries to make a beautiful ball dress appear on Cinderella without success: the gown ends up on Reporter Kermit instead.|
(EKA: Folge 2098)
|Scene|| The clock finally strikes 6 pm, but Santa does not arrive. Ernie goes and opens the door, and the old man with the white beard faints. Bert informs Ernie that it's in fact Santa Claus.
Santa regains consciousness, and Bert and Ernie offer him various things, including a Christmas nut, but Ernie can't crack it open.
|Muppets|| The Squirrelles sing "Don't Be a Tough Nut to Crack". |
(EKA: Folge 2027)
|Scene|| Ernie succeessfully cracks the nut, and it renews Santa's energy. He tells them that he has just been in Brazil and drops his red robe to reveal his beach clothes, telling Ernie that he likes his clothes very much.
Santa then hands them their gifts. Ernie gets a big paper clip and Bert gets a Christmas Rubber Duckie, but before they can say anything about the mix-up, Santa suggests that they sing a Christmas song.
