Willie Nelson (b. 1933) is a country music singer who has been recording studio albums since the early 1960s. He was a member of the country supergroup The Highwaymen in the late 1980s, with Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. He was parodied by Sesame Street Live as Wooly Nelson.

In 2001, Nelson titled his 55th album after the first track, a cover of "Rainbow Connection". That same year, he was honored at the Songwriters Hall of Fame where he posed for photos with Judy Collins, "The Rainbow Connection" composer Paul Williams, and award presenter Kermit the Frog.

In 2005, Nelson performed "The Rainbow Connection" with Gonzo for the Paul Williams DVD/CD release I'm Going Back There Someday.

In 2016, Nelson guest starred on The Muppets episode "Generally Inhospitable," performing "On the Road Again" (which he wrote) with The Electric Mayhem.

Nelson's "On the Road Again" was also performed by the Muppets in episode 109 of The Jim Henson Hour and the Disney MGM-Studios stage show Muppets on Location: Days of Swine and Roses.
