Xerox is a company best known as a producer of printer products. Their name became synonymous with photocopies to the point that "have this Xeroxed" entered into the common vernacular.
The company sponsored This Way to Sesame Street, a promotional special that aired on NBC two nights before the premiere of Sesame Street. During a segment of the show, Ernie and Bert explain that Xerox have allowed them this time to promote the upcoming series, but they would not be sponsoring the public television broadcast. Xerox also sponsored Vila Sésamo during its initial run in 1972.
Sesame Street Muppets Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Zoe, Oscar the Grouch, Bert, and Ernie were featured in a commercial for the Xerox "Laser Color Wind" printer in Japan. The commercial aired around the late 1990s. Behind the scenes footage of the commercial appears in the documentary I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story.
Joan Ganz Cooney served on the company's board of directors from the 1970s[1] through the 1990s.[2]
