"You'll Never Walk Alone," from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel, is a song with religious overtones about finding comfort in times of trouble. In the musical, it is sung to a grieving widow after her husband's violent death and reprised in the finale when he finally ascends into heaven.
A small caterpillar performs "You'll Never Walk Alone" in episode 416 of The Muppet Show. Wearing a rainhat and galoshes on each of his many feet, the caterpillar trudges through the grass during a rainstorm, while a fierce wind blows umbrellas past his head.
A line from the song was also sung as a punchline to one of the jokes in the Veterinarian's Hospital sketch from episode 212 of The Muppet Show. The patient was, appropriately, a shoe.
The song was parodied as "You'll Never Cross Alone" in Episode 1597 of Sesame Street. "Worm Soliloquy," another Sesame song, incorporates a snatch of the song (while parodying another song from Carousel, "Soliloquy").
