"You've Got a Friend" was recorded on two albums in 1971, first by singer-songwriter Carole King on her Tapestry album, and again by James Taylor on Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon. Both performers won Grammy Awards for the song, King for Song of the Year, and Taylor for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male.
The Muppet Show
Vincent Price and a number of ghouls and ghosties perform "You've Got a Friend" as the closing number on episode 119 of The Muppet Show. The Muppets in the chorus include Uncle Deadly, Droop, Miss Kitty, Flower-Eating Monster, two Ghosts, various Frackles and Heaps and a purple dragon-like creature.
The sketch was released on the Playhouse Video compilation Gonzo Presents Muppet Weird Stuff. Although it was included with the whole episode on Best of the Muppet Show Volume 5, it was cut on the home video releases Monster Laughs with Vincent Price and The Muppet Show: Season One. The scene appears fully intact on the German DVD release of the episode, including the optional English sound track.
America's Got Talent
Kermit the Frog sang a duet of the song with Terry Fator (ventriloquist/impressionist/singer) in the 2007 season finale of America's Got Talent. They were joined by a chorus of Muppet chickens towards the end of the number.
Sesame Workshop's 14th Annual Benefit Gala
In 2016, the Muppets of Sesame Street (including Big Bird, Grover, Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster, Rosita and Telly Monster) performed the song with Charlie Puth at Sesame Workshop's annual benefit gala and were also joined onstage by John Oliver.
